Europe is known for its cities which are filled with historical architectures and large urban areas, making them fascinating destinations for traveling. Here is a list of the ten largest cities in Europe, area-wise.
1. Istanbul
The capital of Turkey, Istanbul is the largest (5343 sq. km) as well as the most populous city in Europe. Known for its iconic Byzantine architectures, Istanbul is a historical center and thus, is crowded with lots of tourists around the year.
2. Athens
Athens is the capital of Greece. One of the biggest economic centers in Europe, Athens is one of the world's oldest cities, with a history of over 3400 years. It has an area of 2929 sq. km.
3. Moscow
It is the capital city of Russia covering an area of 2511 square kilometres. It dwells on the river Moskva. Moscow is widely known for its architectural display of Russian culture.
4. London
One of the most famous cities in the world, London has an area of 1572 square kilometres and a population of 9,304,000. It is the capital city of England and stands on River Thames.
5. Saint Petersburg
It is the fifth largest city of Europe, covering area of 1439 square kilometres with a population of 5.4 million. Situated on the Neva river, Saint Petersburg is often called as ‘Venice of the north’ due to its unique architecture.

Rome is the capital city of Italy and has an area of 1285 square kilometres with population of 4,257,000 and density of 2,232 people/square kilometre.

It is the capital city of Hungary holding an area of 525.2 square kilometres and an estimated population of 1,752,286.
