11 Amazing Spanish Islands

Spain is renowned as a perfect travel destination, especially known for its islands and beaches. No matter which one you plan to attend, its clear azure waters and tropical weather are sure to impress you.
The islands are divided into two main parts – Canary Islands off the African Coast in the Atlantic and Balearic Islands of the Mediterranean Sea.
1. Ibiza
The mornings here are for relaxing on the beaches like Migjorn or Cala Saona, gorging on the top class Spanish cuisine here, shopping at those infinite markets, and sightseeing nearby like the Cova de Can Marca.
Ibiza is rightly known as the ‘party island’ because of its beaches, EDM, parties, and the buzzing nightlife. The beaches light up as the parties start at 7 PM, which go on till the morning.
2. Majorca / Mallorca
It is the largest among the Balearic Islands and boasts of over stunning 200 beaches. It boasts of picturesque scenery, great golf courses, several scenic trails for walking or biking, and undoubtedly best beaches.
There are scenic towns and monasteries hidden in the lap of the Tramuntana Mountains. You may plan your trip during the annual Jazz Festival which is a huge celebration here.
3. Menorca
Menorca is the smaller and less crowded version of Majorca. It is not only known for its unspoiled beauty and tranquility, but also known for its megalithic monuments which date back to 1300 BC.
There are beautiful cliffs, rocky bays, stunning lagoons, whitewashed villages, and breathtaking beaches like Cala Mitjana and Macarelleta. Monte Toro is the highest mountain which offers a stunning panoramic view.
4. El Hierro
The island is declared as a World Biosphere Reserve because of its lush forests, diverse landscapes, and rich marine ecosystem.
This lesser-known beauty boasts of stunning landscape because of its volcanic origin. It is also commendable that this island is completely self-sufficient using renewable energy.
5. La Gomera
The island is famous as Christopher Columbus had started his voyages from here. The island boasts of various landscapes like rain forests with unique plants, rock formations, volcanic remains, and stunning mountains and waterfalls.
You can enjoy all this without touristy crowds and with a pleasant weather year round. The inhabitants are said to talk in a special whistling language, known as Silbo Gomero, to communicate in the forests, which can be heard for 2 miles!
6. La Palma
The island is great for adventure lovers. Its stunning landscapes are great for hiking and people who like traveling on foot. All this beauty can be explored without the overpowering crowds.
The countryside scene is complimented with lush jungles, large volcanoes, and the largest carter in the center. This is one of the best places to try stargazing.
7. Lanzarote
The island is known for unique volcanic landscape that takes up almost quarter of the area. You’ll find restaurants that cook meals over the heat coming from active volcanoes in the Timanfaya National Park.
The attractions here include Mirador del Rio lookout and Whales & Dolphin Museum. The beaches like Papagayo, Playa Blanca, or Famara are beyond stunning.
8. Formentera
The small island is known for its pine forests, sand dunes, and the stunning white-sand beaches. Some of them are clothing-optional beaches. It is easily accessible from Ibiza.
One of the main attractions here is the La Mola cliff with its lighthouse. Activities here include sailing, snorkeling, and of course relaxing!
9. Gran Canaria
The island is a well-developed beach holiday destination and is also one of the largest cities in Spain. The landscapes are diverse with sand dunes, lush forests, mountainous regions, and both white sand and black lava beaches.
You may just relax on the beaches, ride a camel, play golf, take a tour to rustic cave villages, or take part in activities like surfing hiking, and diving. It is one of the best diving locations here.
10. Tenerife
The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is known for watersports like windsurfing, jet-skiing, and diving. The rocky cliffs offer many hiking opportunities.
You may also take a cable car ride to Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain. Also, this place is known for its wine and amazing Jazzy nightlife.
11. Fuerteventura
The best part of this island is that you can enjoy best of both the worlds. One side is filled with great beach resorts and the other is untouched with beautiful landscapes.
There are over 150 beaches out of which many are famous for kite surfing and wind surfing because of strong winds here.
