It’s illegal to ride them on the beaches, however, there are plenty of places in town you can enjoy riding them.

Explore the Tidepools of Cholla Bay
The tidal pools of Puerto Penasco are simply phenomenal! During low tide, a 15-mile reef is exposed, allowing you to peruse through a variety of marine life caught in the tiny tidal pools left behind.

You can explore natural marine galaxies like starfish, sea anemones, crabs, squid, etc., at Playa Mirador, Playa De Oro, and Cholla Bay.
Oyster Farm Tour (Ostioneras)
Another popular tourist attraction of the area is the oyster farms that keep serving plate after plate of freshly-shucked oysters straight from the sea. Enjoy watching the oysters being caught and prepared for you at these farms.
Trip to Bird Island or San Jorge Island
Bird Island is a group of rocky islands at a 2-hour boat ride away from Rocky Point. In 1978, it was declared a Reserved Area of Shelter for migratory birds and wild fauna. Enjoy a whale and dolphin-watching boat cruise in the winter.

These islands are known for the opportunity it offers to interact with sea lions. Touted as the world’s natural Sea World, it is home to over 3,000 sea lions and scores of migratory birds.

El Pinacate and Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve (EPGDABR)
Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, EPGDABR (714,566-hectare) is situated in the Sonoran Desert, and is managed by the Federation of Mexico.
El Pincate is a volcanic range comprising 10 large volcanic craters, while the biosphere is attributed for its sand dunes and diverse flora and fauna. This heritage site is perfect for camping, hiking, and general exploration.
Ultralight Flights
An ultralight flight is a light-weight, pilot operated aircraft that looks like a motorized glide. On this 10-15 minute flight, you can literally enjoy a bird’s eye view of Rocky Point and enjoy Puerto Penasco’s beauty in its entirety.
