7 of the Best Hot Springs in Colorado

Situated just outside Steamboat Springs, Strawberry Park Hot Springs are the best hot springs the Rockies has to offer. You can stay in tents or rustic cabins and relax in 104 degree waters enveloped in evergreens. During the day, it’s open for all ages but it’s adults only after sundown.

Once used by the Utes for healing and relaxing, these pools are ideal for relaxing after a day long hike. Visitors can hop from pool to pool to try out different water temperatures. The temperatures vary from 95 to 112 degrees Fahrenheit.

Home to one of the hottest and largest hot springs pool in the world, Glenwood Hot Springs has the ‘Yampah’ spring at its source. The nomadic tribe Ute wintered here. ‘Yampah’ translates to ‘Big Medicine’ and it produces over 3 million gallons of water per day at the temperature of 122 degrees Fahrenheit.

It is a primitive hot spring located north of Pagosa Springs and next to San Juan River.

It is a 4-5 mile hike from the West Fork Trailhead Park. The temperature of each pool can be varied by adjusting the rocks to keep the cold river water out and the hot mineral water in.

Situated to the southwest of Colorado where 13,000 feet San Juan mountains overshadow these pools, Ouray Hot Springs are a hidden gem of the Rockies. These sulphur-free springs are open year round.

Requiring an eight and a half mile hike uphill, it is the most remote wild hot spring in Colorado and is located in Maroon Bells Wilderness near Aspen. While it is a challenging climb, the hiking trail to this uncrowded hot spring is lined with wildflowers, rivers and wildlife.

Located south of Pagosa Springs, these hot spring pools are naturally fed by the Piedra River. The water temperatures in these shallow pools can reach upto 100-107 degrees Fahrenheit.
