A beach is synonymous with sun, sand, and surfing. For many, Alaska may never figure in, when one thinks of beach vacation.
It may come as a surprise to know that Alaska has approximately 5,580 miles of coastline.
Alaska is surrounded by Arctic Ocean in the north, Gulf of Alaska and Pacific Ocean in the south and Bering Sea in the west.
Black Sand Beach
Located in the Glacier Bay National Park, the beach has black sands that are beautiful to look at.
The beach is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and glaciers offering amazing views to its visitors. Black sand beach is an ideal camping and kayaking spot.
Schooner Beach
Named after a schooner named Satsuma Maru crashed on to the shores.
Visitors can admire the wreck and on the days when the weather is good, surfing is allowed. Though the sea is rough here.
Eagle Beach
Got its name because bald eagles frequent this area.
You can see them perching on the trees/rocks, or feasting on the beached salmons.
The beach nestles in the Tongass National Forest. The beach has pristine white sand making it an ideal place to go beach combing or picnicking.
Homer Spit Beach
One of the best beaches in Alaska, this beach is a popular boating and fishing spot.
There are shops, restaurants and rentals here. The beach is also dog friendly.
Yakutat Beach
An untouched beach in Alaska that has unique beauty and charm. You will come across driftwood and shells on the beach.
At times the waves can become rough and pose a challenge to the surfers.
Kincaid Beach
On the edge of Kincaid Park near the Downtown Anchorage is the beach with fine and smooth sands.
A beautiful and gorgeous place for picnics, for a long stroll or even for bonfires
Nome Beach
Nestling between Bering Sea and Front street has a long sea wall that protects the city from storms.
In summer, you can come here for beach combing and to build bonfires.
Fort Abercrombie State Park
Located within a huge park with hiking trails and rocky areas is this sandy beach. The sand is soft and the beach offers gorgeous views.
Waters in Alaska beaches is never warm even in summer months. Wearing a wet suit would be more comfortable before plunging in to the sea.
