Hiroshima Peace Memorial (Peace Park)
The icon of Hiroshima, this enormous park is dedicated to the atomic bombing of 1945.
This 1,22,000 square meters park was built as a symbol of peace and reminder of the devastating effects of a nuclear war and houses over 70 monuments.
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
Situated inside the Peace Park, this museum focuses on the atrocities people went through during the atomic bomb explosion.
The artifacts and exhibits are detailed and stories heart wrenching. It’s a reminder to future generations to pursue peace.
Atomic Bomb Genbaku Dome (Hiroshima Peace Memorial)
The symbol for International peace, this structure is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This building has great significance, because it was the spot where the first ever atomic bomb explosion took place in 1945.
It’s a symbol of Hiroshima, and a reminder for the importance of World Peace. The skeletal structure withstood the bomb explosion and the remains haven’t been reconstructed.
Hiroshima Castle (Carp Castle)
Reconstructed and restored after the bombing, this castle is another Hiroshima attraction.
Today, it’s a museum featuring the history and culture of Japanese Samurai families. However, the highlight is the facility to try on a Samurai armor.
Shukkeien Garden
Although originally created in the 17th century, this garden was destroyed during the atomic bombing.
It was then restored and today it’s a beautiful traditional Japanese garden with lots of tea houses and tea ceremonies.
Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki
A must-try in Hiroshima is its soul dish - Okonomiyaki.
It is a Japanese savory pancake layered with noodles, eggs, vegetables, meat, and/or seafood. A special Okonomiyaki sauce containing 51 ingredients is what gives the dish its unique flavor.

If you want to try a variety of Hiroshima Okonomiyaki, then head over to Okonomi-mura food theme park or village. An Okonomiyaki paradise, this theme park houses 24 restaurants serving distinct and different styles of this dish.
Miyajima Island
A 45-hour boat ride away from Hiroshima city is the mesmerizing Miyajima Island.
The main highlight or attraction of this island is the famous Itsukushima Shrine with its iconic Torii Gate.  This view is considered one of the best views in Japan.
