The city is steeped in crusader history and has many monuments belonging to the Ottoman period. Acre is a holy city for those following the Bahal Faith.
Though it is not a main tourist trail, it has many amazing things to offer to its tourists.
It is an Ottoman styled domed mosque built in 1781.
It has a beautiful arcaded courtyard has many small rooms that were once used as accommodations for the Islamic scholars and pilgrims. The mosque also houses the mausoleums of Ahmad Al-Jazzar and his successor Suleiman Pasha.
The Burj el-Commander is located in the old city of Acre. It is the part of the ancient fortification that was build to defend the city from sea attacks. You can reach this tower from Weizmann Street.
The 18th-century citadel sits just inside the old city walls of Acre and is one of the major points of interest
Citadel was used as a prison by the British. Today it is converted as a Museum of Underground Prisoners.
The Khan al-Umdan got its name from the granite and porphyry columns. The Khan provided traveling merchants with accommodation while trading in the city.
Hamam al-Basha Museum
The Turkish Bath popularly known as the Hamam dates back to the 18th Century. Today its a museum.
Bahji Bahai Centre
In the beautiful gardens of Bahji is the shrine of Bahá'u'lláh, the founder of Baha'i faith. Bahji is situated around 3 km north of Acre. Bahá'u'lláh last few years of his life in a house inside this garden.
Lohamei HaGeta'ot was founded by the Lithuanian and Polish Jews who had fought against the Nazis in the WWII. Today it's a museum that displays the history of Vilinius, the Jerusalem of Lithuania and the jew community who lived here from 1551 to 1940.
St. John's Church
It is the most picturesque church that was built in the 18th century in Acre. The interior of the church is plain. One of the reasons people visit here to capture the beauty of the red bell tower.
Crusader Tunnel was discovered in 1994. The tunnel connects the harbor with a Templar palace. The architecture is fascinating and it makes an intriguing tourist attraction.
