Built in the honor of the revolutionary leader, Ho Chi Minh - known also as ‘Uncle Ho’ to his people, this mausoleum is his resting place where his body is preserved in a glass case. This mausoleum in Hanoi should be on the top of your list when traveling to Vietnam.

Located in the center of Ba Dinh Square, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is also called as Ba Dinh Mausoleum. Though in the honor, it was built against the leader’s wishes for a simple cremation.

Things to See in Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

1. Ba Dinh Square

Your browser doesn't support HTML5 video. This is a huge square right in front of the Mausoleum. It was made by the French Colony. In 1945, the President read the letter of independence here and later it was the venue for the funeral of Ho Chi Minh.

2. The Presidential Palace

This luxurious yellow palace was built for the Governor-General of Indochina. The President was suggested to live in the palace after independence. He, however, declined it stating he hated the smell of invaders in the palace.

3. Ho Chi Minh Stilt House

This house was built for the President after he denied living in the Palace. It is a simple place with 2 rooms surrounded by a peaceful pond and greenery. Visitors can view the rooms from outside.

4. Ho Chi Minh Museum

Built to mark the 100 th birthday of Ho Chi Minh, it contains everything related to the President. From photographs to military orders, it is a great place to revive history.

5. One Pillar Pagoda

This is one of the most unique pagodas in Asia and the top attraction of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Complex. It appears like a lotus blossoming from the lake over a square structure on a stone pillar.

Features:

The Mausoleum has an appearance similar to Lenin’s Mausoleum in Moscow. It is 21.6 meters in height and 41.2 meters in width.

The Mausoleum is closed between September to November as the body of this leader is sent to Russia for embalming and sustenance.
