A Guide to National Museum of the Marine Corps

The National Marine Corps Museum, a tribute to U.S. Marines, opened on 13 November 2006. This state-of-the-art museum has thousands of artefacts that highlight the values, culture and mission of the Marine Corps. The Museum is a part of the Marine Corps Heritage Center, that includes a memorial park, parade grounds, artefact restoration facilities, etc.

Overview

The museum uses interactive technology and multi-media exhibits to help visitors get a hang of the life of the solider in the Marine Corps.

Located next to the U.S. Marine Corps Base at Quantico, the National Marine Corps Museum is built on a 135-acre site. The inspiration behind the 210-foot titled mast, is the Iwo Jima flag raising of World War II.

Construction Update

The construction of the 115,000 sqft of 'Final Phase' is completed. The new space includes Combat Art Gallery and Studio (Opened in July 2017), Giant screen movie theatre featuring a destination film (opened in July 2017), and Expanded Education Suite and Children’s Gallery (opened in November 2017).

Hours: Daily: 9 am to 5 pm (Closed on Christmas Day)
Admission: The entry to the museum is free of cost. However, you need to pay $5 for the flight simulator and a M-16 A2 rifle range.

Facilities: The Museum has a gift shop, classrooms, office spaces, 2 restaurants, and a state-of-the-art theatre.

Galleries and Exhibits

The exhibits showcase the history of the evolution of the Marine Corps. You can witness a grueling boot camp experience, listening to recordings of Marine oral histories, and a walk-through of the winter battlefield scene of the Korean War. The features at the galleries highlight the role of the Marine Corps in the Korean War, World War II, the Vietnam War.
As per the proposed plan, the gallery will narrate the story of the role of the Marine Corps in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In 2019, the continuation of Legacy Walk will open which includes exhibits of the humanitarian missions of Marine Cops in the Embassy security, 9/11, the MAGTF, Marine Corps families, and pieces on how fallen Marines are honored.
