Tennessee is a landlocked US state. It may not be considered a conventional beach destination but it proves otherwise.
Though the state does not border either the Atlantic Ocean or the Pacific Ocean, it boasts of many beautiful lakes.
Visitors can find some beaches inside state or federal parks. A few beaches are encircled by thick forests adding to their natural beauty.
Cheatham Lake
On offer are a sprawling 320 miles of coastline. Popular activities include swimming, fishing and boating. Some prefer camping here or observing the rich wildlife. The long and narrow lake attracts around 2 million visitors annually.
Cordell Hull Lake
The amazing sunsets here are a treat to watch. On offer are children's playgrounds, charming swimming beaches and picnic spots. Popular activities include viewing the wild life, horseback riding, boating and fishing.
Old Hickory Lake
The water body is located in the northern part of the state. The lake boasts of four designated swimming beaches. Amenities include restrooms and picnic tables. Ideal for paddle-boarding, kayaking and jet-skiing.
Paris Landing State Park
This popular attraction is located on the western shore of the charming Tennessee River. It is an ideal destination for water sports. Great for swimming and sunbathing. There are plenty of accommodation options available including a 130 room inn, attractive cabins and plenty of camping sites.
Rock Island State Park
The much-visited state park features majestic waterfalls and a natural sand beach. It is a top kayaking destination and ideal for exploring and hiking. The accommodation options include campsites and cabin rentals.
South Cumberland State Park
The pretty park is famous for hiking as well as back-country camping. A must-see are the magnificent waterfalls, and the gorgeous gorges. Enjoy the man-made beach here. Soak in the radiant sun and revel in a pleasant waterside picnic.
Big Ridge State Park
The park is a family-friendly destination with fabulous scenery. The Big Ridge Lake has a sandy beach where visitors can go swimming or take a refreshing dip when the weather is hot. There are sporting facilities aplenty. Sand volleyball is popular here.
Percy Priest Lake
The best beach here is located at the Anderson Road Recreation area. Children particularly will enjoy playing in the sand and splashing in the water. Ideal spot for camping and picnicking. Great place for outdoor activities and water sports.
