Austin, Texas is a city of murals, inspired graffiti and beautiful sculptures. This city is an epicenter for art and artists. Austin is home to many museums as an added bonus for exploring the history, music, art, science, and other cultural aspects of Texas. If you are touring the city, it is a must to add certain Austin museums to your travel bucket list.

1. Blanton Museum of Art

This Austin art museum is one of the largest university art museums in the U.S. It was founded as the University Art Museum in 1963. There are about 18,000 works as a permanent collection in the museum.
This museum has something to offer to every type of art lover. From European, Latin American and Contemporary American paintings as well as a Greek, Etruscan, and Roman vase collections, you will definitely find something of interest. Blanton Museum is a child-friendly museum.
You can get your kids and let them touch all the pennies in the Cildo Meireles' Missão/Missões installation. Kids can even participate in the many art activities conducted at the museum during the summer.

2. Thinkery

Formerly known as the Austin Children’s Museum, it was founded in 1983. It is a place to answer the whys and wherefores in a child’s mind. The exhibit galleries here revolve around imparting educational experiences to kids related to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM).
Each gallery in Thinkery provides play-based learning, activities, as well as content to interest people of all ages. They even have different educational programs grouped according to the age of children, or for adults only, as well as, educator-specific programs.

3. Texas Toy Museum

The Texas Toy Museum is a must visit not just for kids, but for every nostalgia-loving adult. There are over 20,000 pieces of toys and figurines from the late 1970s to the early 1900s.

5. Austin Nature & Science Center

Founded in 1960, this Austin science museum is where you can take a look at educational exhibits and recreational activities related to nature. You can take a look at the indoor as well as outdoor exhibits at the center.
You can try the Forest Trail for native tree identification, visit the Dino Pit for outdoor paleontology exhibit, butterfly lovers will enjoy the Monarch Waystation, or try the Wildlife Exhibits to know more about birds of prey, small wonders such as terrariums, aquariums, and mammals such as bobcats.

6. Bullock Texas State History Museum

The Bullock Museum was founded in 2001 as the official history museum of the State of Texas. It aims to unfold the Story of Texas to its audience using rich educational experiences.
Texas artifacts from around the world, the culture of Texas, etc. are showcased at the museum. There are new artifacts displayed and special exhibitions conducted all year round. You will be able to explore more than 16,000 years of Texas history right here at this museum.
