Awesome Tourist Places in Cagliari, Italy

Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia, an Italian island. It is an important port city that serves as a gateway to the north coast of Africa.
During the historic times it was an important military base of the Roman Empire.
Today, as a popular tourist destination, Cagliari offers not only gorgeous stretches of coastline, but also beautiful parks and fantastic historical buildings.
Bastione Saint Remy
It is an iconic structure of Cagliari. During the historic times it was used as a fort.
This 19th century structure has a wide open terrace, ornate facade and a decadent covered walkaway.

Bastione San Remy offers an amazing view of the Mediterranean Sea.
Torre dell’Elefante
It translates as the Elephant tower, and is in proximity with Bastione San Remy. This is an impressive guard tower that was constructed in 1307.
From top of the tower you can see the entire city of Cagliari.
Il Castello
Head out to Il Castello, if you want to catch the glimpse of the Cathedral of Santa Maria that was built by the Pisans in 1312.
There is also Palazzo Reggio where the Savoy royal family lived after Turin was captured by Napoleon.
Duomo di Cagliari (Cagliari Cathedral)
A 13th century church that depicts the designs styles of Romanesque and Baroque architecture.
The front facade, series of stone arches and the interior decorations is a reminiscent of the Duomo in Pisa.
Roman Amphitheatre
This is one of the best preserved ancient Roman ruins in Cagliari. The amphitheater dates back to 2nd century AD. It is partially carved into the rock face.
Gladiatorial contests, dramatic performances as well as public executions were held here, and could house around 8000 people.
Cittadella dei Musei
It is a museum complex that houses an Archeological Museum, the Anatomical Waxes Collection and the Oriental Art Museum.
This is on the northern side of the town center. You can spend a whole day admiring the artifacts and exhibits.
Santuario di Bonaria
A 14th century Basilica dedicated to Blessed Virgin Mary.
A beautiful church with ornate archways in the front. It was destroyed in the WW2 but has now been restored.
Calamosca Beach
A beautiful and quiet coastline where you can swim in the warm waters or simply sunbathe.
Torre di Calamosca and the Torre del Poetto are in the proximity.
Piazza del Carmine
A 19th century public square that spans over an area of 1 hectare. There is a statue of Virgin Mary in the center of the square.
There are eateries and other shops from where you can watch people while sipping a cup of coffee.
