Best Places to Go Paddle Boarding in Austin, Texas

Joe Parker
For paddleboarding enthusiasts, Austin, Texas is one destination they shouldn't miss. The city is full of all kinds of paddle boarding spots. Here are 5 of the best paddleboarding spots.

Snake Island

The name of the island maybe a little scary but it doesn't actually have snakes on it, at least not a lot. It's actually a pretty good place for beginners because it's mostly open flat water. And since it's remotely located on Lady Biard Lake, you are able to have a quiet paddle boarding session if that's how you prefer to paddle.

Lady Bird Lake

Lady Bird Lake has calm water, which is preferable to the ocean with huge waves for rookies. It also reflects the city skyline perfectly and you are always able to find other outdoor enthusiasts on the banks. It's also home to 1.5 million bats who start to come out during sunset around the lake.

Secret Beach

From downtown Austin, you can take a 15-minute drive to go to Secret Beach. If you are having problem finding it, it's normal. It's called Secret Beach for a good reason. If you prefer to have a few moments of solitude, this would be a great place to be. Note that there are no rental shops nearby, so you need to take your own paddle board.

Spring Lake

Another perfect destination for newbies of paddle boarding. Spring Lake offers you with crystal-clear flat waters and a great view of the green surrounding. It's a preserved lake, so you will barely find signs of environmental harm here.

Lake Travis

In Lake Travis you can find blue waters and limestone cliffs around the lake, giving it a secluded feel. If you prefer to paddle in an isolated place without much disturbance from other people, this is the place to be.
