If you are not well-acquainted with the roads, it is advisable to rent a taxi than driving down to Benagil yourself. There is a decent taxi service in the area,  available at affordable rates.
You can also book your taxi on 'Bolt' and 'FreeNow' apps. These taxi services may seem to be a bit on the upper end, but the service is good and quite extensive.
The Benagil beach is known for strong tides that change frequently. Hence, you can hire a Standup Paddle Board (SUP) for a ride into the cave and all around the Algarve coast area.
Several boat companies operate from local beach towns like Carvoeiro and Armacao De Pera. You can have a better view of the rock formations and caves with longer boat trips, which start from Portimão, Albufeira, Lagos, and Vilamoura.

The paddleboard and kayak are highly preferred by visitors for exploring the Benagil Caves as they enable to catch better views. However, you can also hire small boats for a smoother and faster entry into the caves.
Kayaking is highly recommended if you are out for a long-term trip, especially in the summers. Visit the Benagil Beach early in the morning to avoid the crowd!
Benagil has a single-road route, which will take you to the beach area directly. Roadside parking is also available. The caves are only about a 40 minutes drive from Lagos.
The best time to visit is in July and August. However, if you want a pleasant exploring, plan your trip in June, or go at the onset of September to avoid the crowd.
If you're visiting in summer, make sure you keep yourself protected against the harsh sun rays. Carry a sunscreen, sunglasses, and an umbrella to protect your skin while at Benagil.
