Enjoy the Hot Air Balloons

Who doesn't love hot air balloons and what if you get to see a bunch of multicolored balloons flying in the largest balloon festival? Then, head to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in the month of October.
Mass Ascension is the most famous event of the festival that involves release of umpteen balloons in the sky. The eye-pleasing views of balloons of cartoon characters, animals, flying up the sky is worth every penny. Also, the happiness you derive looking at the bright balloons in the night is unparalleled.
During the festival, you can also take part in photo contests, music concerts, visit the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum that will introduce you to the vibrant world of ballooning.

Try Mountain Biking

Get adventurous by biking on the feisty and rugged terrains along the Sandia mountains. There are trails and paths for cycling that cover a long area.

While Strip Mine Trail provides a bumpy and thrilling ride, Embudito Trail lets you enjoy the scenic green vista around. You can also hike along the extensive trail.

Have Fun in Sandia Peak Tramway

Take a tram ride to witness the breathtakingly beautiful Sandia Mountains. It is one of the longest aerial tramway in the world.
The joy ride also lets you catch a glimpse of eagles, beautiful Jacob’s ladder flowers, and many other native plants.
The snow-clad mountains and conifer trees look pristine and will make you thank nature. You also get see Rio Grande Valley and its deep canyons. Sandia Mountain stretch is a part of Cibola National Forest which is suitable for hiking, camping, etc., and houses a great variety of flora and fauna.

Visit the National Hispanic Cultural Center

This center was built to preserve the richness of the Hispanic culture. It organizes numerous events and functions that showcase the ethnicity of Hispanic culture. Cultural performances, conferences, theatre plays, and discussions are held to bring into light various aspects of this amazing culture.

Visit the Petroglyph National Monument

This area features unique carvings designed on the rocks, most of which are volcanic. The designs include that of animals, birds, and some signs that supposedly represent the Pueblo culture.
There are several hiking trails near the Petroglyph park. Being a dry and hot area, you can find xerophytes like cacti, prickly pear and animals like kangaroo rat.
