There is so much to Multnomah Fall, a roaring beauty that appears to be taken out of a fantasy novel leaving you breathless and mesmerized at the same time.
Where is Multnomah Falls?
Multnomah Falls is located at about 30-minutes from Portland, Oregon and to the east of Troutdale, nestled between Corbett and Dodson.
Folklore Surrounding Multnomah Falls
Native American folklore speaks of a young princess who wanted to bathe in a secret place. To fulfill her wish, the Multnomah Falls was created.
Height of the Multnomah Falls
The waterfall was formed during the Missoula Floods at the end of a hanging valley.
It has two major drops, the upper drop is about 542 feet and the lower drop is about 69 feet. Including the gradual 9-foot drop in elevation between the two drops, the total height of the waterfall is 620 feet.
Atmosphere Around the Waterfall
It’s a place of beauty during autumn with gold maples around the cascade with less holiday crowd.
During winter, the water may freeze and if the roads are safe, then the trip will be an unforgettable experience.
Spring and summer have their own uniqueness with larger crowds flocking to see its magic.
Reaching the Falls
Once you reach the base you need to walk several hundred feet of paved trail and reach Benson Bridge.
It is the first tier at the misty base. You can get the best view of the top tier’s 542-foot height from here.
Multnomah Falls Lodge
The Lodge was built in 1925 and has seen millions of tourists who come to view the spectacular Columbia George.
The structure is made up of every rock found in the gorge with a souvenir shop, restaurant, and more.
Climb Up Higher
If you still have time, then try hiking a mile up a steep trail and reach the top. The top has the most spellbinding view of Columbia George.
Wahkeena Falls
You could hike about half a mile to Wahkeena Falls which means ‘most beautiful’. It is about 240 feet and offers a beautiful view of wildflowers, and a beautiful view.
Multnomah Falls is one of the #1 tourist’s spots in Oregon. The waterfall is fed by underground springs from Larch Mountain. Stroll down the Benson Bridge or explore the waterfalls above Multnomah, you will love the serene atmosphere around the icy cold waterfall.
