Sendai was established by Sengoku War General Date Masamune and Matsushima. Just an hour and a half ride from Tokyo on the Japan’s bullet train and you will find the city of Sendai.
Sendai was the closest major city to the epicenter of the earthquake of March, 2011. With roughly one million inhabitants, Sendai is by far the largest city in the Tohoku Region.

Sendai Castle Ruins
The castle fortress was built utilizing the local geographical advantages of the surrounding hills and river. The Sendai Castle was built in 1602.
Zuihoden Mausoleum
It's the mausoleum complex of Date Masamune and his heirs. This gorgeous structure is a sight to behold with its brilliant colors.
Tanabata Matsuri
This is a festival which runs from August 6 to 8, one month later than most of the rest of Japan. It's a beautiful summer tradition held every year.
Matsushima Bay
It's a scenic spot with about 260 islands in its calm waters. There is also a boat dock from which you can get a closer look at the islands.
Akiu Craft Park
It's a facility that contains workshops of artisans that are producing traditional craft items. This place offers lessons including painting traditional toy tops.
Rinnoji Temple
This Temple was originally constructed by the Date Clan in Fukushima. The temple was founded in 1441 by Date Mochimune.

AER Building View
Located adjacent to the west exit of Sendai Station, the observation deck on the 31st floor provides views to the east and west. It’s the perfect place to get the complete layout of the city.
Osaki Hachimangu
It's a National Treasure and one of the most important Shinto shrines in Sendai. Osaki Hachimangu was recently restored with best architecture and style.
Sendai Port
The Port of Sendai is the capital of Miyagi Prefecture. Do not miss to visit aquarium, a beer factory and large shopping complexes, including an outlet mall.
Aoba Castle
Aoba Castle was built in 1602 by Date Masamune. It features models of the castle as it stood in the Edo Period.
