Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and can overall be considered the cultural capital of Scandinavia. It's considered one of the best cities to live in the world and is very tourist-friendly.
However, Copenhagen too has gone through a tumultuous history with multiple sieges and two devastating fires in the 18th century that destroyed much of the city's architecture. The Plague in 1711 killed almost 1/3rd of the city's population.
Noma, a high-scale restaurant in the city was consistently ranked the best restaurant in the world in the early 2010s. That is probably too expensive for most normal people so numerous eateries selling traditional Nordic food dot the streets of Copenhagen.
Dyrehavsbakken is the oldest surviving amusement park in the world, having been built in the 16th century.
After Dyrehavsbakken, Tivoli Gardens is the second-oldest surviving amusement park in the world. It contains the oldest still operating Ferris wheel and Roller Coaster in the world. Tivoli Gardens also served as the inspiration for Disneyland.
Nordisk Film is the oldest film production company in the world that is still producing films. Copenhagen is also the home of infamous auteur Lars Von Trier and his production company, Zentropa Films.
Copenhagen is also the city of Hans Christian Andersen. There's a little mermaid statue in the city. The statue has been a victim of various acts of vandalism.
Copenhagen plans to go wholly Carbon-Neutral by the year 2025. It plans to do this by relying on solar and wind energy.
Copenhagen is possibly the most bicycle-friendly city in the world. 62% of all commuters to work commute by bicycle.
This adds to Copenhagen's extraordinarily green environment.
The Carslberg factory is located in the city, but th interesting thing about the factory is it contains the largest collection of unopened beer bottles in the world. Started by a local man, the collection was housed in the factory when it got too large for his home.
In 1971, a bunch of squatters took over an army base and named it 'Christiania' and declared themselves free from Danish law.
The commune persists to this day with it's own set of laws (like no private property or vehicles allowed) and a sign at the entrance that reads "You are now leaving the European Union".
People in Christiania are basically free to do anything they want and even the Danish Government supports them. It is famous for it's Pusher Street one of the major Hashish hotspots in the world.
