Atlanta is home to many national brands. It has a lot of quirky attractions for all age groups. Since this city played a vital role in the Civil War, there are museums and landmarks that should not be missed. If you are a budget traveler, there are a number of things to do for free and some wallet-friendly places that are worth visiting.

Piedmont Park Conservancy

It is Atlanta's largest public park where many events take place throughout the year. History Walking tour, Bird walks ( first Saturday of every month) are free for all age groups. Enjoy the local cuisine, preserves and live music at the Green Market, a local farmer's market.

Bring your pet dog to the Piedmont Dog Park. It's a 3-acre area where you can let your dog off-leash. Ensure it has the collar and the ID tag. There are shaded areas, restroom and water spickets for the pets. Playgrounds, tennis courts and swimming pool are the other prominent features.

Centennial Olympic Park

Centennial Olympic Park was opened during the Summer Olympics 1996. There are a number of events that you can enjoy with your family.

Fountain of Rings an interactive fountain that features the Olympic Ring Symbol mesmerizes both the children and adult alike. Music at Noon concert series in summer and winter activities are held here annually.

You can spend an entire day here taking a free tour which gives you an insight into history of Georgia and its past capitals, the historic figures of Georgia, the roles they played to shape the nation, and the importance of democracy.

Fernbank Science Center

The museum is operated by the DeKalb County School System. You get to see the dinosaur skeletons, Apollo spacecraft and live animals at this center.
Though the admission to this center is completely free, you have to buy a ticket to visit the planetarium.

Get a CityPass

Touring Atlanta and don't want to dent your pocket, buy a CityPass. You can save up to 41% on your tickets to attractions such as Georgia Aquarium, World of Coco-Cola, CNN Studio, and more. The CityPass is valid for nine consecutive days from the start date. The unused pass will expire after 6 months.

Georgia Aquarium

It is the second largest aquarium in the world.

The aquarium houses 100,000 animals and 500 species of marine life. To save a couple of dollars, buy tickets online. There are also promotions for shows such as Imagination Nights and the tickets must be purchased online.

World of Coca-Cola Museum

Show your CityPass at the red entry arch. This museum houses the rich heritage of 125 years of Coco-Cola. You get to see the bottling process.

General admission ticket allows you entry to 4D Theater. At the refreshment bay you can choose either an ice-cold Coco-Cola, Coke Zero or Diet Coke.
If you are a member of the Armed Forces, bring your military ID along, as entry is free for armed forces - retired as well as those who are active in service. However, this facility is not available while booking tickets online.

Castleberry Hill Art Stroll

Castleberry Hill is one of the places listed on the  National Register of Historic Places. If you are a budget traveler, visit this place on the second Friday of the month.
Each month, free Second Friday Art Stroll is organized by the community. The visitors can browse through the local crafts and artworks.

CNN Studio

The best time to visit the CNN studio is on weekdays. Advance booking is recommended during summer, public holidays and weekends. It's a walking tour for approximately 50 minutes. Elevator-assisted tours are available at stipulated hours and require prior booking. Sign language interpreters, if required, should be confirmed at the time of reservation.

You get to see the broadcasts of CNN news, as your tour includes a visit to the main studios and newsrooms. Information on the CNN founder Ted Turner and how he created the 24-hour news channel in the US will be shared. You can also pose with a microphone at a CNN anchor desk for a souvenir photo.
