Whenever someone asks about North Carolina, you might instinctively think Wilmington, and all the film studios located in NC. It should come as no surprise to all those people who very religiously followed television series such as One Tree Hill, or even Dawson's Creek.

Very evidently though, there is absolutely nothing fun about associating North Carolina with either of these series. Given that North Carolina is made up of at least 100 counties, the list of fun activities in North Carolina must definitely be worth a look.

You could do the same old like going to the beaches in NC, or just be all touristy, but there has to be more... So how about we move on to answering your question, what are some fun activities in North Carolina?

Best Things to Do in North Carolina

Situated in Southeastern United States, there are a lot of fun things that you can indulge in when on a visit to the home of the Bobcats, (think Charlotte Bobcats). So how about we now really get started with some of the most fun activities in North Carolina.

Visit the Charlotte Nature Museum

Since there are so many places that you could go to in NC, why not begin with the largest of 'em all... Charlotte! What's more is, this is one of the many fun activities in North Carolina with kids.
Imagine the experience you could expose kids to by giving them a chance to freely walk amongst butterflies at the Butterfly Pavilion, or even get the opportunity to observe animals at the Creature Cavern, or for those kids who seem fascinated by those creepy-crawlies, you could also check out the Insects Alley.

Whether you want to spend just a couple of hours there, or maybe even an entire day, this will turn into a productive day, no matter what.

Be Part of the Independence Day Celebration

Very evidently, this activity can only be indulged in by those visiting NC around the 4th of July. Also, given that the 4th of July celebrations are a big deal all around the country, this may not seem like an exceptional thing to be doing in North Carolina.
It will, seem more interesting to someone who is probably experiencing the '4th of July' for the first time ever. What may simply come across as a large party filled with grandiose of every kind, this is one the most entertaining things that could be indulged in, if in North Carolina with family. Hence, the 4th of July is a big deal for everybody, isn't it?

Visit the Breweries

There is no denying that this will be a fun thing to do, especially for all the men! By no means does that mean that a woman would not enjoy an activity like such, but there are some things that just define what the guys like!
There are several breweries, and even wineries for that matter that you could plan a trip to. Along with the opportunity of a complete detailed tour of the place, you could also get lucky with sampling and tasting some of the finest that these places have to offer. The best part here, you just would not return disappointed.

Get a Glimpse of History

North Carolina is loaded with historical sites. There are so many places that you could choose to go to, you truly would not have a dull moment, especially if you are in NC. Right from taking a look at the 1870 Train Depot, which also happens to be one of the oldest existent railroad depots, you could head to downtown Thomasville for this one.
If train depots do not do much to fascinate you, you could perhaps head to Burlington, and check out the Alamance Battleground State Historic Site. Apart from that mentioned, there are also other attractions including courthouses, gardens, museums, and the likes that could keep you well entertained in North Carolina.

Shop for Antiques & More

Women love to shop. Whether it is about looking for some exquisite antiques, or something more contemporary, there is no better activity for women, than shopping. This may seem almost silly, and a drag to most men.
Go to 1839 Antiques in Salisbury, for the largest range of antiques that you could ask for, or you could even head to Annabelle's Florist and Antiques in Ocracoke, for some unusual picks from all around the world. What's more is, given that they are florists, you could buy a flower or two, just as well.
Now that was a pick of 5 fun things that you could do in North Carolina, but you must not think that it is all you can do. If you are an ardent sports person, go ahead and make some time for a basketball game, and watch the Charlotte Bobcats, or if hockey is what you prefer, go watch the Carolina Hurricanes.
There's also the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, Bodie Island Lighthouse, USS North Carolina Battleship Memorial, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park, if you please.
For those of you in lazy mode, just sit back, relax, and go cool off at the beaches, or enjoy some fishing, or even bird-watching. Bottom line, irrespective of what you opt for, you know that you will have a good time in North Carolina.
