Darwin is the capital of Northern Territory of Australia. This city is a coastal gateway to many tropical National Parks. Darwin is home to charming markets, sunset cruises and beaches. Popularly known as the Top End, Darwin has many vacation destinations from beach markets, waterfalls to art galleries and hiking trails.

Litchfield National Park

Litchfield National Park is a must-see place. The park has several waterfalls that cascade into clear pools. Swimming and lazying around the water pools is a pastime for the tourists as well as the locals.

There are many walking trails through which you can hike to see the native birds  and get a gist of the woodland fauna of the tropics. Most of the visitors stay overnight at the camping sites here.

Sunset at the Mindil Beach

In the suburbs of Darwin is the Mindil Beach. The beach is infested with crocodiles and jellyfish therefore it is not wise to swim here.
However, sunset markets held here is very popular among the tourists and locals. You can enjoy a picnic dinner at the food stalls here while watching the sun set.

Cullen Bay Marina

Cullen Bay is a popular destination for seafarers and travelers. It is less than 2 km from Darwin and is home to over 200 vessels.
The place features premium as well as pocket-friendly restaurants, souvenir shops, art galleries featuring local artisans' works. There are charter boat operators offering sightseeing/sunset cruises.

Cruise the Mary River Wetlands

If you are visiting Darwin during the "Wet Spell" do not miss out on the wetlands cruise. The river gets flooded and becomes an inland sea, infested with crocodiles and diverse variety of fish and mesmerizing birds.

Tropical Gardens

The tropical botanical gardens showcase the local tropical flora and fauna to admire. There are plenty of walking trails and waterfalls to enjoy.

Tiwi Islands

A chain of nine islands, north of Darwin, form the Tiwi islands. Only two of the islands are inhabited by the Tiwi people, an indigenous native of Australia. 
Tiwi Islands are also home to a sea turtle conservation program.  This charming island is for nature lovers and bird-watchers. Wildlife tours are also arranged by the locals.

Crocodylus Park

A visit to Darwin is incomplete if you haven't visited the Crocodylus Park. The park is situated in Berrimah and is a conservation for both saltwater and freshwater crocodiles.
Apart from the crocodiles, the zoo also houses big cats, monkeys,  snakes and other animals.
