Hawaii Travel Tips for First-Time Visitors

Kevin Devoto
Hawaii is one of the best places to visit at any time of the year. The beautiful weather, brilliant blue waters and delicious cuisine all combine to create an exhilarating experience for tourists. Not to mention, the fun things you can do while there such as snorkeling, whale watching and surfing. Here are some pointers on how to make your trip worth it.

Schedule Your Activities Early

Make sure you schedule your activities ahead of time, perhaps months to a year before you go. This is important because weather can be unpredictable. Sometimes due to changing weather, outdoor activities such as boat trips and helicopter rides could be canceled. By scheduling these activities early, you're allowing yourself room to reschedule.

Prepare for the Rain

It rains often on all islands in Hawaii. Each year, on average, Hawaii gets about seventy inches of rain. To stay comfortable and avoid getting drenched, be sure to pack some quick-drying clothes and a breathable raincoat, just in case. If you're bringing your children along, grab some kids rain pants to help repel the rain.

Enjoy the Beach

To get the full experience, you don't have to be on a boat, a helicopter or zipline the whole time you're in Hawaii. You can take full advantage of the beach and what it has to offer.
You're not just limited to sitting on the sand and watching the waves crash away - even though that's great too. You can go snorkeling with the sea turtles or get your surf on.

Stick to One or Two Islands

During your trip to Hawaii, try not to hop from island to island. This can take away from the experience and prevent you from fully enjoying your stay. Island hopping can also be expensive because you'd be paying to stay at multiple hotels. Try to stick to one or two islands.

Consider Staying in a Condo

Consider renting a condo with a kitchen. Renting a condo is a great way to save money so that you can stay in and cook, instead of going to restaurants for the majority of your stay.
While the food is delicious in Hawaii and you're eager to taste it, eating in Hawaiian restaurants for every meal can hurt your pockets.
