Insider Tips for Traveling to Vancouver

Kevin Gardner
Vancouver is a vibrant city located in British Columbia, Canada. While surrounded by water and mountains, it’s a busy city that has a lot to offer. Whether you’re just thinking about traveling to Vancouver, or you’ve already booked your hotel reservations, here are some insider tips to keep in mind during your stay.

The Weather is Pleasant

While the weather is generally nice, Vancouver gets fair amount of rain. This is due to the city's location in the Pacific Northwest. Don't let the rain stop you from exploring, though. Purchase kids rain jacket for your young ones before you go and pack hats for everyone. Even if it's raining, you can still find plenty of things to experience.

Take Advantage of Public Transportation

Vancouver is a compact city. You can get from one corner to another in about 40 minutes. Staying in the center of the city means, anything in Vancouver is just  20 minute walk away. If you decide to drive somewhere, don't rent a car. Driving can be difficult and parking can be expensive. Instead, take a public transport.

Visit the Dining Districts

Visit one of Vancouver's dining districts, such as Main Street, Alexandria Road, or Gas-town. Whether you're craving Asian or want fantastic vegan fare, there's something for everyone. It's one thing to view restaurants online. It's a completely different (and highly recommended) experience to see and smell them up close.

Tipping is Expected

Leaving tips is an expected practice in Vancouver. Whether you eat out a restaurant, enjoy a few drinks at the bar, use hotel services, indulge in a spa treatment, or travel by taxi, you're always expected to provide a tip for the service you receive.

Explore the Markets

Vancouver has markets for all kinds of interests, including street-food markets, farmers' markets, and more. During your time in the city, you should investigate the Richmond Night Market. The market runs from May until October and is open Fridays through Sundays. It's the largest market night market in North America.

Check Out the Local Attractions

There are many incredible local attractions to keep everyone entertained. If you're interested in history, check out Museum of Anthropology, which has a large collection of indigenous art and over 500,000 archaeological objects. For those who enjoy art, there's the Vancouver Art Gallery. Another place to see is Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Garden.
