Interesting Facts About Andorra

Andorra is a micro-state which means it's really tiny. With an area of 468 square km, it is about 60% of the area of New York City. However, when compared to fellow micro-states like San Marino and Monaco, it is a virtual giant.
Located high up in the Pyrenees mountains, Andorra is squished between Spain and France. Andorra doesn't have a post-office of its own, so all its postal needs are satisfied by the postal departments of Spain and France.
While having a parliament of its own, Andorra is a diarchy. This means, in name at least, Andorra is jointly ruled by a Diocese in Catalonia appointed by the Pope and the President of France. They are both named princes of Andorra.
However, the head of government retains executive power.
Andorra decided to remain neutral, but secretly helped French resistance against the Nazis. They had also provided asylum to Catalan fighters defeated in the war against Franco, who later fled to Spain.
This resistance against Franco's Spain continued even after the war, albeit in an altered form. Books, music and films censored in Spain found a home in Andorra.
With its location high up in the mountains, there's not much land suitable for farming. However, Tobacco is produced in large quantities in the country. Andorra remains one of the only countries to allow indoor smoking in public places.
Andorra has a population of about 77,000 people but the tourists average 10.2 million people a year which obviously makes Andorra one of the few countries where the tourists outnumber the locals.
With its snow covered mountains and peaks, Andorra is one of the major skiing destinations in the word. Ski resorts line up the country and millions of tourists indulge themselves with skiing here.
However, Andorra has never won a medal at the Winter Olympics. Considering the country's small size, the Winter Olympics remains the country's only chance of having a sporting achievement.
