Mexico has a firm place in world culture and happenings. Here are some interesting facts about Mexico, some of which you may already know, and some which you will be amazed to hear about.
The United Mexican States are located at latitudes 14° and 33°N, and longitudes 86° and 119°W in North America. Mexico shares its boundaries with the North Pacific Ocean to the west and south, and United States on the North. To the south-east, it is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, Guatemala and Belize. The Gulf of Mexico is to its east.
This country has a rich culture and is a great tourist destination. There is so much that can be said about this lovely country, that one page just wouldn't be sufficient. Nevertheless, let's have a look at some of the main and interesting facts about Mexico.

Mexico covers almost 2 million square kms in area, making it the thirteenth largest (excluding Greenland) country in the world and the third largest (excluding Greenland) in the America.

Mexico is also the most populated Spanish-speaking country in the entire world.
Mexico has the second-largest Catholic population in the world, first being Brazil.
Spain conquered Mexico in 1521, and Mexico gained independence after exactly 300 years, in 1821.

The 1910 Mexican Revolution saw the killing of nearly a million people, out of the 15 million total population.

Mexico consists of a federation of thirty-one states and one federal district.

Mexico has been one of the founding members of many important international organizations, the United Nations being the most noteworthy one.
The district Mexico City is one of the most populated cities on a global level. Mexico has a population of a little over one hundred million people.
Mexico has two mountain ranges crossing it to its north and south. The Sierra Madre Oriental and Sierra Madre Occidental cross Mexico to the north and the south respectively. These ranges are an extension of the Rocky Mountain. Mexico also has a fourth mountain range that runs from Michoacan to Oaxaca, the Sierra Madre Del Sur.

Another important fact about Mexico is its bio-diversity. It is known for its flora and fauna, and is one of the seventeen mega-diverse countries in the world.
Mexico has a host of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and flora. It is therefore ranked second, first, fourth and fourth respectively, in each category.
Mexico has seven hundred and seven species of reptiles, four hundred and thirty-eight species of mammals, two hundred and ninety species of amphibians, and about twenty-six thousand species of flora.
It is also considered to be second in the world of ecosystems. Mexico houses about thirty-four unaltered ecosystems and a number of parks and monuments. It also has seventeen sanctuaries and twenty-six areas for protected flora and fauna.
With a daily production of nearly 4 million barrels, Mexico has the honor of being the sixth-largest oil producer in the world.
Mexico has a democratic, representation and republican government. It is based on the congressional system in line with the 1917 Constitution.

The constitution has 3 levels of the government: the Federal Union, the State Governments, and the Municipal Governments. The three separate branches of the Government are the Judiciary, Legislative, and the Executive.
Mexico has a free market economy. It has the highest per capita income in all of Latin America. It is also the thirteenth largest economy worldwide.
Mexico City hosted the nineteenth Olympic Games in 1968. It is the only Latin American country to do so. It has also hosted the FIFA World Cup twice, in 1970 and 1986.

The most popular sports in Mexico are soccer, bullfighting, baseball, and boxing. The largest bullring in the world is La Monumental in Mexico City.
Mexican cuisine is world-famous. Some of the famous food divinations from this country are fajitas, quesadillas, enchiladas, and the ever popular tacos.
