Lord Howe Island is a small Australian Island. It boasts of beautiful beaches, thick forests and clear waters. Popular attractions include Mount Gower, Mount Lidgbird, Neds beach and Blinky beach. This holiday destination offers a unique, once in a lifetime traveling experience.

Bird Watching

The island is the top bird watching destination of Australia. Tourists can see as many as 14 species of seabirds breeding in large numbers. The rare bird known as the Providence Petrel can be spotted here.

Snorkeling

The adventurous can go snorkeling in the ocean which is deemed to be the cleanest as well as clearest globally. Around 500 fish species and 90 coral species inhabit the island waters.

Fish feeding at Neds Beach

One popular activity here is to feed the fish. The crystal clear waters is full of fish species such as wrasse, drummers and mullet. Tourists can also swim to the exquisite coral gardens at a short distance from the shore.

Hiking to Mount Gower

Hiking to the summit of this mountain is an exhilarating experience. Shift to Transit Hill to get breathtaking views of the island.

Trail Walking

Visitors will find many walking and hiking trails adjacent to forests or to the sea. Choose one that suits you as the trails vary in difficulty and challenges. Go through the Kentia palm and banyan forests or test yourself with cliff top hikes.

Admire the Sunrise atop Malabar Hill

Tourists can walk up a fairly easy trail for 30 to 40 minutes to reach the summit. At the top is an abundance of spots to take in the beauty of the sunrise.

Cycle and Swim at the Beaches

Visitors can choose to explore as many as 15 magnificent beaches. Biking is the most popular transport here. A must-see is the Blinky Beach famous for its turquoise waters.

Visit the Lord Howe Island Museum

The popular museum educates visitors about the volcanic origins of the place as well as the history of the island's first settlers. Tourists get first hand knowledge about the island's local flora and fauna. Did you know that the island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site?

Travel to Balls Pyramid

The famous volcano is the highest volcanic stack in the world. The world's rarest insect can be found here. As per scientists it is part of the lost continent of Zealandia. For your information the volcano is visible from Mount Gower Track .

Thornleigh Farm

The farm is more than a century old. Here, tourists can go on a guided tour of one of the island's oldest settlements. The place is a heritage farm supplying naturally grown fresh farm produce to locals and visitors.

Most folk visit the island between September and May. This South Pacific holiday destination is only a 2 hour flight from the cities of Brisbane or Sydney.
