Mesmerizing Beaches in Amsterdam

Happiness is a day at the Beach!!
Priyanka Wadhwani
Amsterdam is colloquially referred to as the
"Venice of the North".
Attributed by the large number of canals which form a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the capital and most populous city of Netherlands.
It is known for its narrow houses with gabled facades, legacies of the city’s 17th-century Golden Age.
Cycling is key to the city’s character, and there are numerous bike paths.
Ranked as the second best city to live in by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
Amsterdam is also blessed with a number of stunning beaches, without which your holiday at Amsterdam will be incomplete...
Come, let’s have a look around few of those many beautiful beaches of Amsterdam...
Wijk Aan Zee
Recognized as the best surf beach in Amsterdam, it’s a home to one of the best beach clubs, ‘Timboektoe’.
It has the clearest water along the coast, making your trip a photogenic one!!
Pllek
Named after the Pllek Restaurant which is a home to art exhibitions and cultural happenings, this beach is perfect for live music and a decent selection of beer and burgers on offer.
Sloterplas
With a crystal clear water that’s always refreshingly cool, it’s a quiet, family-friendly beach. Major attractions include, a sailing school, water sports center, rentable chairs and volleyball equipments.
Blijburg Aan Zee
It’s an artificially made sandbar with enough food options to keep you satisfied all day. Make sure to reach there on time to grab a perfect spot as it’s a small one!!
A perfect destination for relaxing on a sun lounger while sipping on Aperol spritzes.
Also a variety of beachside bars and restaurants, like the newly opened Hippie Fish and old favourite Safari Lodge, are hard to turn down.
Zandvoort
Castricum
Aan Zee
Popular with city dwellers who are perhaps more used to jellyfish (“kwallen”) than tourists are, this is the beach to hit if you’re on the hunt for a more low-key day in the sun.
Bloemendaal
A perfect place to swim in the ocean, bake on the sand and then retreat to a stylish undercover venue.
Bloemendaal offers world-class live music and a fun party atmosphere.
IJmuiden
If you love water sports, this place is meant for you. Activities such as kitesurfing and paddleboarding to blokarting keep you pretty occupied.
Buitenzwembad Marineterrein
Although it’s not technically a beach—and the council is yet to approve it as an official swimming spot, you may see the place always filled with swimmers when the sun is shining.
Strandzuid
A place with under-the-radar restaurant, bar, playground and, of course, artificial beach has a lot to do.. lay back on a day bed sipping rosé, then head to the beer terrace as the sun sets to sample local brews and play ping-pong with your crew.
When in Amsterdam, it is easy to take advantage of the sunshine and enjoy a spontaneous day on the sand instead of spending hours in the city’s museums, visiting top attractions and coffeeshops.
Dust off your beach bags, get on the sunscreen, boast your shades and you are all set for a fantastic beach holiday when in the city!!
