The Dolomites

The Dolomites are one of the most popular places to see in South Tyrol. Listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009, the ragged, magnesium-rich limestone mountains have a 200-million year history.
The best time to check out the Dolomites is during sunset, when the mountains take on a surreal beauty. The Dolomites are also popular for hiking, mountaineering, skiing and snowboarding.

South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology

Located in Bolzano, the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology is a must visit, mainly for its most important exhibit, Ötzi the Iceman. This is a 5300 years old mummy, which was found in 1991 by hikers. In fact, this museum has been specifically built for this glacier mummy.
At the museum, you would not only get to see the naturally-preserved mummy but also learn about the copper age. You would also get to know about the research done to find who the iceman was, his life, his death and other such interesting details.

Merano

Popular for its thermal baths, people have been traveling to this city for thermal cures for centuries. Apart from the modern thermal complex, it is equally interesting to visit the ancient churches, medieval buildings and arcaded galleries of Merano.

Trauttmansdorff Castle and Gardens

Visit the Trauttmansdorff Castle, which is nestled at the end of the magnificent 12-acres Trauttmansdorff Gardens. While the castle is a fine example of neo-Gothic architecture, the idyllic trails and paths of the garden would give you the chance to see numerous plants and trees, mainly tropical and alpine flora.

Stelvio National Park

Diocesan Museum in Brixen is something that art lovers should not miss. Located inside the Bishop's Palace, you would get to see rare paintings and sculptures from the Classical, Romantic, Medieval and Baroque periods.
