The Galapagos Islands are a world famous archipelago located in the Pacific ocean. It boasts of many plant and animal species, found nowhere else.
The islands are part of Equador, located around 1000 km from the country's coast. In 1835, Charles Darwin visited some of the islands and his study of the island's species served as a foundation for his theory of evolution.
It is the biggest of the Galapagos islands. The island boasts of one of the biggest craters in the world.
Isabela Island
The seahorse shaped island is known for giant tortoises. Visitors can also spot reef sharks, spotted rays, colorful reef fish, penguins and other fauna.
In 1835, Charles Darwin visited this island first before the other islands of the archipelago. It is home to the capital of the Galapagos, inhabited by around 5000 people.
San Cristóbal Island
Attractions here include a monument dedicated to Darwin and a rock with the name León Dormido (Sleeping Lion). Look out for sea lions, marine iguanas and 3 different species of boobies.
It is the archipelago's second largest island. Santa Cruz has many hotels where visitors can stay.
Santa Cruz Island
The island is where the Charles Darwin Research Station is located. Here, you will find pristine beaches and the stunning Los Gemelos sinkholes.
It has the distinction of being the oldest of the Galapagos Islands. The oldest post office in the world existed here.
Floreana Island

Watch out for the Floreana Lava Lizard and the Floreana Mockingbird here. A must-visit is Devil's Crowns, a lagoon teeming with flamingos.
The southernmost island of the archipelago is famed for seabirds, notably the waved albatross. Visitors can spot sea lions at the Bahia Gardner beach.
Espanola Island
The island boasts of spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean from rugged cliffs. Espanola is 4 million years old and home to brightly colored red iguanas.
It is the youngest of Galapagos's islands. Numerous marine iguanas can be spotted on the black lava formations here.
Fernandina Island
Look out for different species of whales and dolphins here. The island's shores are ideal for diving. At the mid of the island is La Cumbre, a shield volcano standing 1,475 m tall.
The island boasts of a dark-red sand beach. Here, you will find a mating place for Pacific green turtles.
Rabida Island
The island is home to lush green highlands as well as white trees. Look out for the Galapagos hawk and Galapagos fur seal here. On offer, are many snorkeling opportunities.

It is the most photographed island owing to its surreal natural beauty and amazing views. The island is famous for the 'Pinnacle Rock'.
Bartolome Island
The small island is home to the Galapagos penguin. Bartolome island is around 2 million years old. A small sandy beach here offers excellent swimming opportunities.
Look out for great frigate birds and both red-footed and Nazca boobies here. The island is estimated to be 2 million years old.
Genovesa Island
It is dubbed 'Bird Island' owing to the vast and varied bird colonies existing here. Popular attractions here include Prince Philip's Steps and Darwin Bay Beach.
