Deciding where to go on vacation is exciting but requires work. You have to pick a location that appeals to you and any that are coming, you must decide what you will eat and what you will do and you have to make sure that these plans fit your budget. If you are looking for outdoor adventures and want to try something new, consider staying in Moab, Utah.
Biking
Moab is the perfect destination for people who like to exercise. The city has many scenic biking routes and is very friendly to bikers. Since you may be biking on rough terrain, bring a spare wheel or supplies for patching one.
Make sure that you are prepared by biking regularly in the weeks leading up to the trip. You should also eat a healthy diet, including supplements such as Thrive Experience, if appropriate.
Hiking
For people who prefer to stay on their own two feet, hiking is a wonderful way to explore Moab. You can see the amazing scenery, including natural arches, canyons and other landscapes. Consider taking a shorter stroll at night to see the stars. Moab is far enough away from major sources of light pollution that you will see far more stars than you do at home.
Be sure to pack plenty of water and wear hiking boots, since the trails are rocky. Even though Moab is in a desert, check the weather before you set out; it may be colder than you expect. Also keep in mind that while some trails are for beginners, others should only be attempted by experienced hikers in good shape.
Visiting a National Park
Two national parks are partially within Moab’s limits: Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park. These parks both offer gorgeous natural rock formations that you can see as you hike.
Note that both parks, as with all national parks, have entrance fees that vary based on the size of your vehicle. Stop by the visitors’ centers to find maps and to see if the rangers are offering tours or programs. In addition to hiking, the parks allow you to explore canyons and camp if you have your own equipment.
Boating
Although Moab is a desert, it does have two rivers: the Colorado River and the Green River. These rivers are beautiful examples of the scenery in Moab. You can go white water rafting, which takes place on quickly moving waters with an inflatable raft. Beware of the rapids, which can become rough. Don't go white water rafting without some experienced rafters.
If you want to try rafting for the first time, you can hire someone to teach and accompany you. You can also kayak on the rivers in Moab. As with white water rafting, watch for the rapids and do not take anyone who cannot swim. Practice what to do if your kayak flips and how to help someone who has fallen out of their boat.
Driving
You can still enjoy the landscapes in Moab by going for a scenic drive. Traveling on Utah State Road 128 from Moab towards Colorado, you'll experience some of the most beautiful views you’ve ever seen. This section of the road only takes about an hour and has little traffic, but it'll probably take longer because you’ll stop to enjoy the view so many times.
Although Moab may seem like an isolated area, it is so full of amazing outdoor activities that you will not be able to see everything before you leave. Plan carefully so that you don’t miss any of the highlights.
