Things to Do in Tijuana, Mexico

Sucheta Pradhan
A debonair but rakish city sitting on the Mexican side of Mexico–United States border, Tijuana is “tension-free material living” redefined. From tequila and margaritas to little arty alleys and a beautiful shore, Tijuana has it all!
And if you intend to go a bit sleazy on a weekend with friends, this city has a lot of substance too. Here are a few things you shouldn’t miss doing while in Tijuana, Mexico!
Spend Time at Avenida Revolución …
… Tijuana’s main tourist center. It’s the part of Downtown Tijuana that boasts blocks after blocks of restaurants, street food stands, souvenir shops, bars, and “conjuntos norteños” artists.
Visit the Tijuana Cultural Center …
… the most iconic symbol of Tijuana. This spherical building houses Tijuana’s only IMAX theater, botanic garden, aquarium, a permanent exhibition about California, and a café.
Take the Kids to El Trompo …
Tijuana’s interactive science and technology museum. Special sessions are held here for kids wherein they can participate in wacky experiments about electricity, human body, biodiversity, etc.
Catch the Local Vibe at El Popo …
… the vibrant chaotic market along Tijuana’s main tourist drag. You can buy local produce, cured meat, candles, and jewelry, and if you’re feeling up to it, grab a bite of some fresh tacos al pastor!
Walk Across Pasaje Rodríguez …
… a formerly covered shopping passage, now converted into a stylish art gallery by local artists. This mural-covered passage has bars with live music, bookshops, and fashion boutiques.
Seek Relaxation in Playas de Tijuana …
… the city’s westernmost borough boasting clean, sandy beaches and clear waters.
Taste some sumptuous seafood specialties like octopus with rice, and ceviche at one of the restaurants lining the vibrant promenade!
Check Out the Vineyards of Valle de Guadalupe …
… Mexico’s famous wine region. This region produces about 90% of Mexican wines. Take a day trip from Tijuana here to visit its lovely vineyards and go on a fabulous wine-tasting spree!
Party All Night …
… at one of the high-end nightclubs in Plaza del Zapato.
If you’re more about drinking & chatting and less about dancing, choose one of the trendy cafés or bars in Calle Basil.
