The fifth smallest country in the world and the third smallest country in Europe, San Marino is full of mountainous and rugged terrain!













Though San Marino officially became a part of the UN in 1992, it is believed that San Marino was founded by the Christian stonemason Marinus in 301.
San Marino is about 61 square kilometers with an estimated population of about 33,559.
The country is completely landlocked by Italy, having open borders with Italy, with no border checks entering or leaving the country.
It is not surprising looking at the close relations with Italy that the official language in San Marino is Italian alongside Ramagnol.
Though San Marino is not a member of the EU, the official currency is the Euro.
The country hasn't lost any invasion attempt in all these years. Even after invasion attempts in the 1500s and the 1700s, the country was successful in maintaining its sovereignty.













The country has always provided shelter to the persecuted through political unrest situations. During World War II, though the country was nuclear, it provided shelter to about 100,000 evacuees.  
It was almost the first country to start a paid postal service for its citizens in 1607.
The constitution of the country was drafted in Latin, in 1600, making it the oldest surviving constitution in the world.
Mount Titano is the highest peak in the country, at about 739 meters, making it an amazing tourist spot to catch some amazing views. It is the hill on which the main city of San Marino is located.
Being a landlocked country, there are no major ports or harbors, even though two rivers are flowing through the country!
Otters, badgers, rabbits, weasels, bats and foxes alongside other animals, are native to the country.













The country's economy is boosted due to tourism and sale of collectable stamps and coins.
There are about 100 unique sculptures in the country, with the Lady of Liberty being the most famous one!
Though being a smaller country, the GDP of the country is as good as that of the developed nations. However, this doesn't make the country an expensive one but a rich one!
