Ilwaco is a small albeit charming city in Washington State, USA. Though small, it is an upcoming travel destination with its fair share of attractions.
1. Don Nisbett Art Gallery
Visiting this gallery is worth the effort. Note that, it is not the conventional art gallery many would expect.

2. Port of Ilwaco Boardwalk
The place boasts of a beautiful marina and interesting art galleries. Foodies can enjoy the cafes and restaurants serving delicious fare.
Decent accommodation is available and visitors have the opportunity to buy fresh seafood. Popular activities here include strolling along the picturesque harbor and visiting the Farmer's markets.
3. Willapa National Wildlife Refuge
The popular attraction boasts of some stunning and rare wildlife. Popular activities here include fishing, camping, hiking, oyster harvesting and others.
The National Wildlife Refuge sprawls 11,000 acres. Visitors will find sand dunes, sand beaches, marshes, coniferous forest and other kinds of terrain here.
4. Fort Canby
Fort Canby has the distinction of being one of this state's earliest forts. It was constructed way back in 1864.
The attraction was named after Major General Edward Richard Canby. The historical structure is located inside the Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Park.
5. Cape Disappointment State Park
The attraction sprawls 1,882 acres and is located on the Long Beach Peninsula. This is a great place to have a picnic and enjoy the breathtaking scenery around.
The place boasts of natural beauty, towering lighthouses and deserted military outposts. On offer are pretty hiking trails, camping spots as well as boat ramps.
6. Cape Disappointment Lighthouse
The lighthouse in Cape Disappointment park, is at a short distance southwest of Ilwaco. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Columbia River-Pacific Ocean confluence from here. It was first lit in 1856, and is now open to the public.
7. Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center
The popular attraction sits on the cliffs of Cape Disappointment State Park. It focuses on the Lewis and Clark expedition.
On display are paintings, photographs and oral history of the Corps members. Vistors can obtain souvenirs from the gift shop. The observation deck offers fabulous views of the Pacific ocean and a lighthouse.
8. North Head Lighthouse
The landmark is easily accessible and at a short distance north of Cape Disappointment. There is a short hike to reach the historic lighthouse.
It has the distinction of being one of 2 lighthouses that currently guide ships around the Cape of Disappointment. For a small fee, visitors can tour the lantern room here.
9. Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum
The museum features exhibition galleries showcasing the region's glorious history. Do visit the small and charming gift shop here.
Visitors get the opportunity to learn about the various historical eras, attractions and places of this particular region. Objects of interest here include a 26 foot long boat, furniture as well as tools.
