Come fall in love with this Egyptian town called Aswan. The ancient getaway for Egyptians, this city is full of historical places to visit and exciting things to do. Aswan is located hours away from other popular Egyptian destinations such as Cairo and Luxor, and so is less frequented by tourists.

1. The Nubian Museum

Built in 1997, it is a museum dedicated to the Nubian culture and civilization and reflects the phases of development in the Nubian culture.

2. The Unfinished Obelisk

The unfinished obelisk is 1/3rd larger than any other standing stone in Egypt. Located in Sheyakkah Oula, it was built by Hatshepsut, the 2nd historically confirmed female pharaoh in the 18th Dynasty of Egypt.

3. Elephantine Island

The biggest island in the Nile, this is the place to visit the Aswan Museum, Ruins of Abu, Temple of Khnum, and the Temple of Satet.

4. Kitcher Island

To the west of Elephantine Island, the Kitcher Island is where you get to visit the Temple of the Nobles and the Aswan Botanical Gardens.

5. Philae Temple

Located on its own island in the Nile, this peaceful complex also called as Temple of Isis is filled with marvelous inscriptions, stone windows and hieroglyphics.

6. Kom Ombo Temple

The Kom Ombo Temple is a beautiful temple that can only be reached by sailing up the Nile in a felucca.

7. Abu Simbel Temples

Beautiful temples built by Ramses II, they are located in the village 'Abu Simbel' - 3 hours away from Aswan. Do visit them to admire the Great Temple of Ramses II and the Temple of Hathor.

8. El-Tabia Mosque

This mosque in Aswan is surrounded by scenic gardens and has a typical architecture of a huge central dome flanked by two minarets.

9. Monastery of St. Simeon

The Monastery of St. Simeon, abandoned in the 13th century is one of the largest and the best-preserved Coptic monasteries in Egypt.

10. Sharia-el-Souq

This market may appear like a regular Egyptian bazaar, but it is a special place to buy exotic scarves, perfumes, spices, Nubian baskets, Sudanese swords, African masks, gigantic stuffed crocodiles and much more.
