Lagos is a pretty town located in southern Portugal. It's famous for its Atlantic beaches but there are also other important and interesting attractions for tourists to visit and enjoy.
1. Zoo de Lagos

Highlights of the attraction include several members of the parrot family, over a dozen monkey species and an impressive variety of turtles and tortoises.
2. Igreja de Santa Maria-Praça do Infante D. Henrique
This late 15th century church of St. Mary is worth a visit.
On display are a blend of architectural styles from different centuries of the past. An important feature is a statue of São Gonçalo of Lagos, an Augustinian saint.
3. Museu Municipal Dr José Formosinho
This museum is functioning since 1934.
The museum boasts of a scale model of Lagos, rich collection of religious art, the place's history dating from the Neolithic period onwards and more.
4. Lagos Marina
This spectacular marina is packed with water vehicles including pleasure vessels and fishing boats.
Sample the delicious food served at the world class eateries located along the boardwalk. The Meia Praia beach is within walking distance from here.
5. Forte da Ponta da Bandeira
The late 17th century maritime fort is strategically located at the mouth of the Bensafrim river.
Enjoy the views of the beautiful rocky coast and Meia Praia from the fort. Of interest to visitors is a modest 18th century chapel having attractive azulejos tiles.

The best time to visit is between 6am and 7am. The market has 3 floors and is near the Lagos marina.

The interesting museum boasts of 22 life-like wax figures of the highest quality.
The attraction is dedicated to Portuguese discoveries. Great opportunity to observe Portuguese historical characters and learn about the country's rich maritime history.

This is a museum featuring exhibits that depict the history of slavery in this country.
