Heraklion is ancient Greek City founded in 824. This is the largest city and the capital of Crete. It is also known by the name Iraklio.
Ruins of Palace of Knossos
Being one of the oldest Greek city, it's famous for the archaeological sites of the Minoan Civilization and the Palace of Knossos.
Knossos is known to have been the mythical Labyrinth of King Minos.The palace of Knossos had living areas, storage rooms and complex drainage system. The frescoes were elaborate and are now in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum
Old Town
The Old Town has a bustling harbor and a notable 16th century Venetian Fort of Koules. Stroll around the scenic promenade that has many resturants and cafes.
Koules Fortress
Koules Fortress was built between 1524 and 1540 and has walls up to 8.7 metres thick. The Fortress played an important role during the Seige of Candia.
Rural Heraklion
Rural Heraklion is quaint beautiful, quiet, clean and smells of citrus and olive trees. There is warmth all over. The country side is covered with spring flowers even in winter.

Morosini Fountain in Lion Square
The Morosini Fountain is located at the center of Old Town. This fountain dates back to 1628. There are cafes and ice cream shops around this square.
