Apart from Alaska, 'North Cascades' has more glaciers than any other national park in the U.S.!
Established on October 2, 1968- the national park, Ross Lake National Recreation Area and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area- together form the North Cascades National Park.

Major Attractions

Stehekin

An ideal place for vacation if you are craving for glaciers, crystal-clear waters and nature.
Nestled amongst sub-alpine timber, you can hike on foot or on horseback along Lake Chelan.

Seaplanes are a great option for a bird’s eye view of this beautiful expanse.

Horseshoe Basin Trail

Drive to camp at the trailhead of Horseshoe, a stunning backdrop with gorgeous trails to hike.

It contains an arctic tundra having bears, deer and bighorn sheep. The hike trail includes a forest. Clutch Creek, the uphill trail takes you to Sunny Pass leading to Horseshoe Basin within six miles.

Washington Pass Overlook

Overlooking Liberty Bell Mountain, head to the western side of the pass for dramatic views of the mountains.

Its an enjoyable hike for the entire family kids as the roundtrip is just about 0.25 miles.

Buckner Homestead

When Buckner family moved to the farm in 1911, Buckners planted a 50-acre apple orchard. They designed an irrigation system to detour water from Rainbow creek to their orchard. Over the years, the family built shelters for animals, milk house, and added many new cabins to their house.
Managed as part of the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, visit the homestead to know more about the family.
Junior Ranger Program is available for kids. Through series of fun activities, four booklets introduce kids to the natural and cultural history of the park based on ages.

When to Visit

You can hike the trails in Summer – from May to August. Winter is a great time for snow-dipped mountains and solitude.

Location

The park is located about 115 miles from Seattle, Washington. Take North Cascades Highway (I-5 to Wash. 20) to reach North Cascades National Park Service Complex.
