What You Should Do Before Traveling the World

To make sure you are prepared and have nothing to worry about at home, here are some ways you can get ready for the big adventure.
Kevin Gardner
The chance to travel the world may be a once in a lifetime possibility, but before you get excited about the prospects of traveling around the globe, there are a couple of things you need to take care of at home. You have “items” to store, bills to arrange, papers to apply for, and friends to say goodbye to.

House Plans

Instead of packing everything up and leaving it in the garage of your home where pests and people can get into it, place your valuables and keepsakes in storage units in Orem. Give the location and combination to your parents or trusted best friend in case you forgot an important paper or document and need someone to find it for you.

Visa Application

Although not all countries require a Visa when you visit the area for a short stay, others do. Visas are different for every country so research what you need for each and fill out the necessary paperwork several months in advance of when you will be leaving home. Give yourself time to get the information back and correct the papers if necessary.

Flight Money

With the excitement of leaving the world you are familiar with can come the fear and trepidation of becoming part of an unfamiliar world where you are on your own. To make sure you can get home without any problem, set aside enough money that you can fly out of any of the countries you are visiting.

Dreaded Budget

You may have a bank full of money before you leave home, but over a year it can slowly begin to dwindle to nothing if you are not careful about how you spend the coins. Although it may be inconvenient, putting yourself on a budget for your trip can help you stretch the available cash and keep you on the road longer.
Plan for food, transportation, tours, accommodations, and emergencies. Don’t forget to add in the cost of all your souvenirs and postage for sending those mementos back home for your parents to keep safe until you get back.
Traveling is about something more than packing your clothes and taking off on an airplane for a few months. You should also know how to communicate with people, understand how to call home, and be prepared to take a thousand pictures of a world much different than the one you left behind.
